Beauty from the inside out, this is what we thrive for at EASTND and what better way to accomplish this then with meditation.
This can be a tricky one for people, your mind immediately goes to sitting cross legged on the floor chanting for hours. The truth is meditation can be done in many different ways. With a bit of research I think you will be pleasantly surprised. 15 minutes a day can not only change your skin but your overall health.
You may end up motivated after learning why meditation is good for our skin. Stress is often a common ailment for many of us. Unmanaged stress shows up in our skin in a number of ways:
Acne - We all know stress can cause acne but why exactly is this? Feeling stressed can cause an increase production of the hormone cortisol. It is believed that too much cortisol in the body causes our brain to produce a hormone called corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH). Meditating before bed can greatly increase the quality of your sleep.
Dry skin - our skin is made up of a barrier called the “stratum cornermen” and contains essential proteins and lipids that keep our skin hydrated. It has been found that stress can directly effect the skins barrier’s ability to regenerate leading to dry and itchy skin.
Rashes - When stress is unmanaged it can weaken our immune system and lead to an imbalance of bacteria in our gut and skin know as dysbiosis. Redness and or a rash can occur when this imbalance is present.
Stress calls can we responsible for flare ups of acne a, psoriasis and dermatitis.
Wrinkles - Frowning is a common stress reactions and after time will contribute to fine lines and wrinkles. Stress can also effect proteins in our skin, reducing elasticity.
All of these conditions can speed the aging process, making managing our stress an important component of supporting “beautiful skin from the inside out”
