By looking into all aspects of your health, we help put puzzle pieces together between symptoms and concerns. Big areas of focus are skin, digestion, mood, and hormones - symptoms can tell us a lot more than most people think - for example did you know that conditions like eczema and psoriasis might be pointing to poor immune function? From there, we can use testing to confirm or rule out other conditions to best refine your treatment plan. Let's explore these larger areas of focus: hormones, skin, digestion, and mood.
Hormones are like little chemical messengers telling your body what to do and when to do it. Hormones affect our mood and mental health, menstrual cycles, muscle growth and development, bone health, digestion, and more. Sometimes hormone levels can be too high or low, which can cause symptoms. This is where we take a look into how you're feeling to determine the reason for it through taking your case and running testing to confirm. Bringing hormones into balance can entirely change the way that you're feeling for the better!
Our skin is like a shield for us, protecting us from the outside world, but it is also a canvas that shows us what is going on inside the body. The skin can tell us a lot about the body's internal condition, even though it's on the outside of the body. We have a team of medical aestheticians that offer services like microneedling, chemical peels, custom facials, and consultations to help you create a customized skincare routine. Our Naturopathic Doctors also provide support through acupuncture, IV vitamin therapy, nutrition, exercise, stress management, supplementation (herbs and vitamins), because these are all aspects of skin support! Addressing digestion can improve acne or supporting the immune system can improve eczema, psoriasis, tinea infections are a few underlying causes to what seem like a cosmetic concern!
Digestion is a big one! Supporting the digestive system means supporting the immune system, mental health, skin, hormones and overall health. When the digestive system is inflamed or damaged for any reason, we don't absorb nutrients as effectively or digest food as well. Our digestive system has to process everything we consume, so it's important to take care of the gut lining, and support overall digestion through the use of herbs, staying well hydrated, eating enough fiber, and a well-balanced diet that's rich in nutrients. Our gut helps produce neurotransmitters like serotonin, our feel good hormone. If the gut lining is inflamed, we can't make as much serotonin as effectively, which can cause lower mood. We need a healthy digestive system to help produce various hormones and neurotransmitters, support muscle recovery, produce energy, sleep well, improve skincare concerns, and stay cold/flu free. Finding the root cause of your symptoms sometimes lies in improving gut health!
We've all felt it - a sudden surge of irritability, overwhelm, anxiety. Some underlying causes we see in mood changes are stress and burnout, hormone imbalances, digestive concerns, mental health concerns, vitamin / nutrient deficiencies. When it comes to mood, there can be many underlying causes from not getting enough exercises to low vitamin D levels, there are many areas of your health that we explore to help identify why you're feeling the way you're feeling. We want to make sure that you're well supported and can help link you with one of our counsellors for additional support, and will work collaboratively with other doctors or psychiatrists on your team.
So you've met our big 4. Once we get a complete picture of your health, we are then able to help you connect the dots and understand why you're feeling the way you're feeling and why certain symptoms are presenting. By connecting the dots, we also help you play an active role in your treatment plan by working together to determine which areas of health are important to address first, and which areas we can provide some symptom relief for for the time being. Everyone's roadmap to health is different - our naturopathic doctors are here to help you connect the dots.
