Chemical Peels for Acne Prone Skin

Chemical peels - if you are struggling with acne prone skin, a chemical peel may just be your best friend!

First, what exactly is a chemical peel?

A chemical solution is applied to the skin and treat the face, neck, chest and/or back area wherever acne breakouts occur. This chemical solution deeply exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells from the surface of the treated areas, leaving behind new, softer, smoother, clearer skin.

Why is this important?

  1. Acne is often the result of clogged pores.

  2. Pores are tiny channels in the skin that release oil and sweat.

  3. Clogged pores are the result of dead skin cells on your face or body that are not exfoliated away.

  4. When dead skin cells are not removed, dirt and oil become trapped and result in acne.

  5. A light chemical peel when done by a trained skin professional can quickly and safely remove the built up dead skin cells, cleaning out pores and allowing the skin to breath, reducing the chances of acne.

  6. Chemical peels also work on hormonal acne by targeting bad bacteria and by regulating the secretion oil.

What is the down time for a chemical peel?

Downtime depends on the strength of the agent used, how many passes are performed during the treatment, the photo type of your skin and the desired results you are looking for.

At EASTND we customize our treatments to suit your needs. A light peel will have very little downtime, with some dryness and redness for no more than 24-hours.

We recommend our Red Carpet peel to be performed 24-hrs ahead of your special event.

Even with this light treatment:

*less redness and inflammation of your active acne

*reduction in white heads and black heads

*your skin will be noticeably smoother and tighter

*even skin tone

*increased absorption of your current skin care products

The benefit of this light peel is the quick turn-around time however for deeper lasting results, it is recommended you incorporate this treatment into your skin regime every 4-6 weeks.

Or if you don’t mind some downtime with deeper results EASTND offers our Jessner Peel, that penetrates deeper into the dermis for a stronger exfoliation.

With the Jessner Peel you can expect a downtime of 7-10 days of peeling, with the heaviest peeling around day 3-5. The amount of peeling really depends on your skin type and the amount of moisturizer you use in the first 3-5 day after your treatment.

As part of the downtime, we recommend…

*no make up for the 7-10 days,

* use a gentle, fragrance free cleanser,

*clean fragrance free moisturizer if needed.

*SPF of 30 to 50

*Avoid direct sunlight

Extra food for thought..

I mention “photo skin type” and it is very important to understand yours before any skin treatments.

In 1975 a scientific skin classification was developed and named the Fitzpatrick scale. It was developed by scientist to understand the sun effects on all skin types.

It is broken down into 6 classifications and is widely agreed upon tool used when medically treating skin and we use it here at EASTND before treating any clients with chemical peels.
